Kevin Hickman, the Christchurch owner-breeder, had a weekend to remember with wins in New Zealand and England and three racing awards.

His 3yr-old filly Emerald Queen won the Canterbury Belle Stakes at Riccarton on Saturday. Hickman won a 1400m maiden race at Brighton (England) with Silke Top, a 3yr-old filly trained by William Jarvis at Newmarket.

Hickman bought Zaza Top, the dam of Silke Top, in England and she is domiciled at his Valachi Downs Stud at Matamata. Silke Top is a half-sister by Lebrettist to Zazou, winner of a sales series race in France and a group one winner in Italy.

Hickman is the owner of Silent Achiever, winner of the New Zealand Derby last season and voted New Zealand 3yr-old of the year.

Hickman was named South Island owner and breeder of the year on Friday night when Winning Spree (the dam of Silent Achiever) was accorded the broodmare award.

Silent Achiever is due to resume racing at Te Rapa on October 5. She has been set for the Coupland's Mile at the New Zealand Cup meeting in November. Emerald Queen has been entered for the New Zealand One Thousand Guineas.

Hickman bred Silent Achiever and Emerald Queen. He established Valachi Downs in 2005 when stepping back from involvement with the public company Ryman Healthcare.

Emerald Queen, trained by Shane Kennedy and Anna Furlong, is raced by Hickman with Warren Bell, Robin Cox, Mene Mene and Brian Roberts.

She is the second foal of Scarlet Queen, who did not race. She was small and unplaced in a trial at two. Her first foal, Red Shift, has won twice and finished seventh in the New Zealand Derby last season.

Hickman bought Scarlet Queen (Fasiliyev-Joann's Reality) for $16,000 at the 2005 premier yearling sale when she was offered by the Bloomsbury Stud.

Joann's Reality is a half-sister to Buryyourbelief, winner of the Kentucky Oaks.
