Marty Banks is back in the South — the deep South this time.
Banks became a cult figure during a four-year career with the Highlanders.
That included coming on and kicking a dropped goal in the closing stages of the victorious 2015 Super Rugby final.
He last played provincial rugby for Tasman in 2016, which he joined after a stint in Heartland Rugby with Buller in 2012.
Banks has played in both Italy and Japan in recent years.
He provides the Stags with plenty of experience and a steady presence.
Meanwhile, an Otago duo is understood to have made a move south.
Harbour second five Willie Tufui and flanker-lock Sione Misiloi are believed to be set to play for Southland.
Tufui moved to Dunedin from Wellington this year, although may have found his way into the Otago squad blocked when Ray Nu’u switched allegiances from Southland.
Misiloi began at North Otago, before debuting for Otago in 2018.
He has also spent the past two seasons with the Highlanders.
