Default mars exciting round

Southern Region rugby is heading towards the pointy end of the competition with plenty of exciting clashes tabled this weekend.

In unfortunate news though, Lawrence have had to default to Clutha.

It is the first time in recent memory that a Lawrence team have had to make this decision, citing player injuries and availability issues that have decimated the squad over the past few weeks.

Lawrence should be all right after some temporary signings become available next weekend.

Clutha remain unbeaten and will add five more points to their total.

Toko host Owaka at Milton with the Dean Miller Memorial and Reg Phillips Memorial trophies on the line.

Owaka currently hold the silverware after round one.

Toko are sitting in the top four and will be committed to increasing their points tally this weekend.

Owaka are still in with a shot at finals footy, but need to grab maximum points out of this game.

Third-placed Clutha Valley host Crescent in a game that usually has both sets of supporters nervous about the eventual result.

This season, however, has Crescent heading into the clash on a five-match losing streak.

Clutha Valley are sitting pretty and are playing some very attractive rugby. The home side should be strong favourites here.

It is club day at Heriot as the home side host West Taieri.

Heriot have two wins on the bounce and are still in semifinal contention. West Taieri lost their first game of the season at the weekend against Clutha, and will not want to make a habit of it.
