Former Wests Tigers playmaker Benji Marshall is set to play his first game for the Blues after switching codes last year.

Marshall is likely to see some game time when the Blues face fellow Super Rugby franchise the Hurricanes in a pre-season hitout on Saturday.

Blues coach Sir John Kirwan says barring an injury this week the former Kiwis star will take to the field in Masterton.

"We'll probably play Benji in all three pre-season games in some capacity," said Kirwan.

"He wants to play 10. Most 10s can cover a couple of positions but he'll be looking to start off at 10, see how he goes and then maybe give him a bit of time at fullback."

The 28-year-old Marshall turned his back on Wests Tigers last year after 11 years with the NRL club to switch to rugby union, the code he last played as a teenager.
