The Highlanders got into their work yesterday after two days off, beginning preparations to take on the Brumbies in a quarterfinal in Canberra on Friday night.
Brown said the side was getting excited about the game but this week was about getting the body and mind right.
"There will be very little training [this week] and it is more about recovering from a pretty tough game against the Chiefs and us getting ready to play against a pretty good Brumbies side,'' he said.
"We have had a couple of days off and the guys are a bit sore. But it is quarterfinals time and we have been preparing since December to make it to this stage. Everyone wants to play and everyone wants to be ready.
"It's a bigger game and guys get more excited around playoff games. The same as the opposition - they will be bringing a lot of intensity for the first 20-30 minutes. So it is going to be a huge challenge early on.
"It's just about playing good footy and backing our game and the way we play the game. Just making sure defensively we are clear in what they are going to throw at us.''
Brown said as wet weather was forecast, the side might have to vary the game plan although it had to back itself and not get sucked into playing a style which suited the Brumbies.
"The Australian teams are always a tough challenge for us. They have got a lot of good rugby players and play a pretty good style of footy. Every time we play an Aussie team we know we are in for a tough game.''
Brown said the Highlanders' kicking game might come into play but it depended on many factors.
"We've had a pretty good look at the Brumbies and we have got our plans in place ... there'll be plenty of forward driving.''
Much for the Brumbies will hinge around the availability of loose forward David Pocock, who tries to battle back from an eye socket fracture.
Brown said the Highlanders were preparing to face Pocock but the conditions were also going to make it tough.
"Canberra is not a great place to play at night and it is meant to be raining. So we will have to prepare for the wet weather. We will just have to vary our game. Use a bit of a kicking game and just try and put a lot of pressure on the Brumbies and hope we get reward out of that.''
Brown said there was no talk about it possibly being coach Jamie Joseph's last game in charge.
"We've not talked about that at all. It is all about the team. We will celebrate those guys leaving at the end of the year when we finish.''
