Belinda Hirst returns a shot during the North Otago closed tennis tournament at the Oamaru grass courts at the weekend.

Most of the region’s top players competed for titles at the annual event. Hirst won the women’s singles title, undefeated in a round robin competition, and added the doubles title alongside Rebecca Ryan.

Hirst and husband Stu were beaten 5-7 6-2 11-9 by Jordyn Phillips and Marshall Hore in the mixed doubles final. Josh Cochrane beat Robin Jamieson 6-0 7-6 in the men’s singles final, and Cochrane teamed up with Josh Dalziel to win the men’s doubles, beating Hore and Nick Dalziel in the final 4-6 6-3 10-4.
