Tennis: Final spot guaranteed

Tennis Southern is guaranteed a place in the final of the national 18 and under girls singles after Louise Oxnevad and Libby Scott both made it to the semifinals at Albany yesterday.

Oxnevad (Queenstown) meets Scott (Dunedin) in a semifinal this morning.

The other semifinalists are Paige Hourigan (Wanganui) and Mikaela Davies (North Harbour).

Oxnevad was seeded third, because of her ITF world junior ranking points, and progressed with wins over Hine Wilson (Wellington) 6-1 6-2 and Gabriela Coates (Canterbury) 6-0 6-1 before winning yesterday against Carli Davis(North Harbour) 6-1 6-1.

Scott, seeded seventh, upset second seed Claudia Williams (North Harbour) 6-3 3-6 6-2 to reach the semifinal.

Earlier she had beaten Annabel Ellis (South Canterbury) 6-3 6-1 and Brogan Maote (Canterbury) 6-0 6-1.

Both Southern girls have another full year in the age group.

Oxnevad missed out on the 16s age group by only four days.
