Juggling so many balls in the air is one of Olivia Bates' greatest challenges but her passion for netball, volleyball and basketball will not stand in the way of her goal of becoming a secondary school teacher.

"I have a very vivid memory of a two-year-old boy, naked in the filthy streets of Lhasa, Tibet, eating sunflower seeds out of the gutter. That image continues to motivate me."

From an early age, St Hildas Collegiate School head girl Jenny Lander (17) has been a humanitarian.

The sport St Peters College pupil Mitchell Will (17) excels at - lawn bowls - appeals to his "highly competitive nature" and requires strategy developed during hours of practice.

An added bonus, he jokes, is "you can beat older people."

Mitchell plays at least four times a week and in competitions and tournaments at weekends.
