The Southern Cross Cat Club is back with its annual show after Covid-19 delays this year forced a postponement.

All registered breeds of domestic cats, including companions and domestics, are eligible to enter affiliated shows and the club has received a good range of exhibits.

The show will be held at the Taieri Bowling Club, Wickliffe St, Mosgiel, on Sunday. It is open to the public from 10am until 4pm.

Entry is $5 for adults, $2 for children and $10 for a family. Eftpos will be available [no Paywave] or cash is welcome.

There are food and other stalls at the venue, and visitors to the show can also take the opportunity to visit the Artisan Market.

This year the experienced all-breeds judges are Paul Henry, of Tokoroa, and Christchurch’s Roy Griffiths, Jo Millar, and Cheryle St Clair-Newman.

The feline competitors are judged in four sections: cats, kittens, entire and desexed, and in individual breed classes, with each exhibit compared to a detailed written standard.

A top 10 ranking for each group and some special awards follow. Visitors are welcome to watch and listen to the judges as well as seeing the cats and kittens in their cages.

Entries this year include the popular Maine Coon, which is the largest domestic cat breed, and the distinctive curly coated Devon Rex with its "cat clown" reputation.

Every cat lover has their favourites and this event will give everybody the chance to see them at their finest.
