Federated Farmers chief executive Conor English will leave the rural lobby organisation in July.
In a statement yesterday, Mr English, who has been in the position for nearly six years, said it was time to ''move on and do other things''.
''There are many opportunities out there that I would now like to pursue,'' he said in the statement.
It had been a ''great privilege'' to lead the organisation and to serve farmers and the rural community, he said.
Federated Farmers president Bruce Wills said Mr English's resignation had been reluctantly accepted.
Mr English had achieved a lot and his energy, talent, skill and experience would be missed, Mr Wills said.
