A top price of $11,000 was achieved at the Kailey Dairies Holstein Friesian dispersal sale in North Otago last week.

The highest-priced cow, Canadian-bred Kailey Atwood Jessy, was sold to Tom and Francesca Bennett, from the Waikato, while the Gilbert family, from Ashburton, bought the second-highest-priced cow, Kailey Sid Bonnie, for $10,000. The average price for 28 cows was $4223, with an average of $4769 for 13 heifers and $3292 for six calves.

Rob and Katrina Kelly, who established their stud in 2000, were ``overwhelmed'' by the support, with about 100 people attending the sale. Mrs Kelly also thanked those involved with the sale preparations, saying it took a team effort to make it happen.
