A series of 12 storm recovery seminars, to help sheep and beef farmers deal with the aftermath of September's storms, are being held throughout the South starting today.
Invercargill farm consultant Deane Carson said the meetings would offer advice on all aspects of a farm business, from maximising income to financial and farm management planning, along with dealing with stress.
For example, having 800 fewer lambs would allow farmers to make 1100 extra bales of baleage, which could provide a source of income.
The recovery process was ongoing and tailing had been identified as a stressful period for farmers as they faced the reality of stock losses, he said.
Farmers were starting to seek advice on feed and financial management.
"I see these seminars as timely and highly informative for the questions farmers are asking right now," Mr Carson said.
The three-hour meetings start this morning at Tuatapere and this afternoon at Blackmount; tomorrow at Riversdale and Mossburn; Wednesday at Fairfax and Winton and Thursday at Morton Mains and Tokanui.
On Tuesday next week (November 16) the seminars are at Clinton and Mataura and next Wednesday (November 17) at Tapanui and Telford Rural Polytechnic.
Morning meetings start at 9.30 and the afternoon meetings at 2pm.
