Stern Angus Stud in South Canterbury grossed more than $500,000 at its recent bull sale, with the top-priced sire fetching $18,000.
Meadowslea Stud at Fairlie bought the top-priced bull, a son of Highlander of Stern.
Highlander sired 24 of the bulls sold.
The bulls averaged $8000.
Stud principal James Fraser said nine Stern bulls were sold to studs and 76 of the 78 commercial bulls sold averaged $5200.
He said he knew Highlander of Stern would have an influence at the sale, but not to such an extent.
Mr Fraser said a son of the sire also topped the Meadowslea Angus bull sale, with $10,000.
Stern has retained two Highlander sons, and Mr Fraser said he turned down an offer of $30,000 from the North Island for one of those bulls.
