Mr Hawes said New  Zealanders could miss out on tens of thousands of dollars in retirement unless they became more actively involved in driving their investment choices.

New Zealanders were notoriously disengaged with their  KiwiSaver, with one quarter of members not knowing what kind of fund they were invested in, he said.

"That's dangerous. If you're still 10 or 20 years from retirement, you risk missing out on thousands in retirement," he said.

The fund is Called Summer KiwiSaver and is the second to be launched in recent times.

Sam Stubbs recently launched KiwiSaver Simplicity aimed at bring more transparency to investments.

Mr Hawes is an Authorised Financial Adviser with 30 years' experience.
