With the race for the Dunedin Mayoralty so wide open we thought it would be fun to do a poll. Who is your first choice for mayor?

The results won't be scientific and won't take into account the single transferable voting system used in Dunedin, but they may be at least a little enlightening.

Safe hands needed.
Vandervis will destroy past gains and throw the city into his brand of mayhem.

As opposed to what?, the greens getting their mitts on our town and building yet more cycle lanes and spending mega bucks on global warm... err 'climate change'.

Exactly, safe hands of someone whose experience is not limited to spending and wasting someome else's money at scale, but also earning their own.

That's rubbish kezza.Only Lee Vandervis is highlighting the mess made by the outgoing council over debt, parking and bad infrastructure.

How do you propose we pay for replacing thousands of rotten power poles that are at risk of falling on our houses and schools; south Dunedin and other suburb drainage and infrastructure that is so long overdue and is **causing** flooding? Fund them trough raffles and boot sales? We need to borrow to keep our infrastructure safe and our homes (from the poorest to the richest suburbs) safe from basic infrastructure breakdown.

We have and are paying for the poles......ever heard of line charges?.
Bigger pipes you say, wonder who is advocating for them.
We already are paying to keep our infrastructure safe...... ever heard of something called rates?.

Remember he was on the council that made the mess we all call home . He was there to remove parking to make the rates higher and make our infrastructure absolutely garbage. He will cost the city US the city a fortune in employment court costs . He is our worst hope

Hard to imagine how anyone would vote for Vandervis if they'd seen him at the council table. Despite his time there he is always condemning and rarely puts forward constructive ideas for problem-solving. I cannot imagine him conducting a meeting let alone controlling a full council,

Vandervis will destroy this town. For example, I will leave and take my business with me. How many other will do the same. How many investors will hear his bs and stay far away. Spending money creates jobs, Vandervis will create a ghost town.

Hawkins has absolutely no 'real world' experience. He is a naive professional politician (albeit a great speaker) with a dangerous, highly skewed 'Green' ideology. Anyone with a modicum of business experience knows that his ideas are literally from "cloud cuckoo-land". If he does become Mayor then it is highly unlikely that any of his extreme policies will ever see the light of day because it is hoped that most of the other 'grounded' councilors will allow common sense to prevail.
