On Monday, staff will shift from their St Andrew St premises to the ground floor of John Wickliffe House, in the Exchange.
Ministry of Social Development regional director Sue Rissman said it embarked on the search six months ago, after receiving word that the new Dunedin hospital would be built partly on the current site.
She said 88 staff would make the move, and were excited to shift into the new premises.
The Dunedin Central service centre offered a limited service yesterday, and the new service centre would open at 11.30am on Monday.
"Our 43 frontline staff, along with 45 other support and regional staff will be based in the building.
"The building is a good fit for us offering privacy, flexibility and accessibility."
When planning began in 2018 for the move, the MSD surveyed clients to ask what was most important to them when visiting the site.
More than 2600 people responded to the survey; their main priorities were low-cost or free parking, public transport options, accessibility, privacy, and for the space to be welcoming and friendly.
Ms Rissman said the design of the new service centre was in line with other centre re-fits, ensuring it was welcoming and user-friendly.
