Grommet shredders are being asked to throw down their best tricks at the Snow Park next week, with the freestyle facility holding a slopestyle open competition for junior free-skiers and snowboarders.
Snow Park had built a custom-designed slopestyle run this year specifically to suit junior riders, operations manager Sam Lee said.
The growing number of junior competitions was beneficial for youngsters riding in the park and wanting to extend their skills, he said.
"We decided to create our own freestyle slopestyle event because we value the future of freestyle skiing and snowboarding," Mr Lee said.
The junior open starts on July 13 with the Armada Freeski Slopestyle event, followed by the Rossignol Snowboard Slopestyle on July 14.
The event gives New Zealand's junior snowsports representatives an opportunity to hone their skills before the upcoming world junior championships slopestyle at Snow Park in August.
The event is split into three age-based categories: grommets, 9 years and under; youth, aged 10 to 13; and juniors, aged 14 to 16.
