It certainly has plenty of that, but in his latest military special forces literary offering, Chris Ryan incorporates an element of realism with the horrors of war. It also shows what a prolific writer he has become, producing a novel based on the relatively recent Libyan conflict and the current Syrian civil war.
The opening scenes are set in war-torn Libya before Jamie Truman, the main character, is sent to Syria on an undercover mission. The plot mixes international politics, spies, civil war and mercenaries.
This book links Ryan's personal experience from the first Iraq war, when he fled to Syria after his botched SAS mission, and the current civil war.
