New Zealand Music Month rolls on with many performances this week.

This morning, the Regent Theatre 24-hour Book Sale, complete with music from some of Dunedin's premier entertainers, continues until noon.

The entertainment begins with Kay Row at 8am, followed by The Chaps at 9am, Oxo Cubans at 10am, and the 30th anniversary of the book sale is wrapped up by Catgut and Steel, who entertain from 11am until the close at noon.

On Monday, Burns Hall (next to First Church) will host a variety gig with many Dunedin performers on the bill.

Ian Loughran is one of the team behind the gig.

"We, the Otago Broadcasting Society committee, thought that a concert celebrating the talent and diversity of local music was a perfect way to both showcase the work [Toroa Radio] does, and to help promote local music."

Loughran says the gig also has a serious aspect as well.

"Presently, Toroa broadcasts on the AM waveband at 1175AM, but the station is looking to switch to the FM waveband. This will give the station an improved quality of sound and allow us to reach more people in the Dunedin community."

Proceeds from the concert will go towards funding the switch to FM. However, that aside, the concert is very much about celebrating the quality and depth of musical talent on our doorstep.

On the bill are: Delgirl, King Leo, Standing Spirits, Baba Yaga, Artsenta, Moana House Group, Waitati Ukulele Orchestra, Otago College of Education Children's Waiata group.

If you can't wait until Monday, former Dunedin songstress Hannah Howes returns with the velvet-voiced Ariana Tikao on their Wahine Toa Tour.

Howes last played in Dunedin at Sammy's on her Candy [album] release tour in April last year, but says people shouldn't expect a six-piece band this time around.

She hopes to encourage other female musicians to tour under the Wahine Toa umbrella.
