Jean Alexander, who played Coronation Street's Hilda Ogden, has died aged 90.
Alexander played Ogden, a sharp-tongued, put-upon housewife in the British soap opera from 1964-1987, BBC reports.
She had another long-running role, as shopkeeper Auntie Wainwright, in Last of the Summer Wine, for 22 years.
Alexander had been admitted to Southport hospital for tests but was discharged after a couple of days and allowed to return to her nursing home, her niece Sonia Hearld said.
But on Tuesday the actress was readmitted to hospital, and where she later died peacefully on Friday (local time).
