Sarah Harvey talks to Aliana McDaniel, director of Ali McD Agency, in Dunedin about her fashion choices.

How would you describe your style?

Experimental, eclectic, elegant with an edge. A bit like me!

Has it evolved over the years?

Yes, colour has been introduced to my wardrobe. I am more at one with my body so I feel freer and sexier.

Describe your wardrobe?

Black with a bit of colour. A mix of retro and contemporary styles.

Whose style do you like or look up to?

Pamela Farry, she is always so elegant. Otago Polytechnic school of fashion academic leader Margo Barton. The actress Chloe Sevigny.

Who are your current favourite designers?

Akira Isogawa. I like to support our local talent so NomD is a staple.

What is your favourite clothing?

A vintage dress bought at the gypsy fair in 2007. It is very sexy without giving too much away.

Shoes?

My vintage Minnie Copper and CoStume National boots. I love shoes.

Accessory?

My eyes are my bling. The ring my lifer bought me.

What was the last item of clothing you bought?

A leather bomber jacket by Claude Maus from Belle Bird.

What has been your best fashion bargain?

A Margiela jacket for less then $200.

What has been your biggest fashion mistake?

Not keeping some of the classics.

A fashion tip?

Know your body type and fit. Be you.

A beauty tip?

Stay out of the sun.

What would you buy if money was not an option?

An Yves Saint Laurent vintage pantsuit. Karl Lagerfeld's sexy take on Chanel is inspiring, so a dress of his - yes please.
