Elderflower cordial may be old-fashioned but there's been a revival of it in both cordials and sparkling drinks.

It will be spring before we see the clusters of little white flowers with their delicate aromas on wild trees and bushes in the South again.

But that doesn't mean we have to go without if we haven't made our own cordials.

Recently I was sent samples of some of Addmore's products made by Kate Addis.

The sparkling elderflower rosé is a light pink with colour from grapes, and is sweetly refreshing.

I enjoy the cordial with soda water, but I think my favourite was the sparkling ginger, white tea and elderflower ready to drink, the ginger adding a zestiness and the tea subtlety to the delicate elderflower flavour.

• Most of us won't have heard of konjac but it has been a staple root vegetable and medicine in Japanese and east Asian diets for centuries.

Now konjac noodles and spaghetti are appearing in supermarkets here.

I was sent a sample of Slendier angel hair noodles made from it.

They are free of gluten, fat, sugar, sodium and low in carbohydrates, but high in fibre with some vitamins.

They are said to keep you feeling fuller for longer and may help lower insulin and blood glucose levels, reduce cholesterol and are promoted for those wanting to lose weight.

They keep well and are precooked, just needing draining and soaking in hot water for a minute or adding straight into a dish just before serving.

It sounds too good to be true, but actually it does appear to be supported by evidence.

However, the white konjac noodles have little flavour and a chewy texture which comes from the glucomannan of which konjac is largely composed.

The noodles are a gel formed from konjac flour and taste - if you could call it taste - a bit like cellophane noodles.

Being neutral in flavour they need a flavoursome sauce.

Something Asian would go well but probably not an Italian-style sauce, and not too high in calories if you are eating them for weight loss!
