Fresh beetroot leaves make a good alternative to silverbeet and other greens - something many people don't realise.
Lots of sweet young beetroot with the leaves still attached is available at several stalls at the Otago Farmers Market, giving you two vegetables for the price of one.
Cut off the leaves, discard any damaged ones, and cook just like silverbeet.
Cook the beetroot separately as it takes a long time, whether boiling or roasting.
Immodest muesli online
Damian Kristof, of the Downsize Me television show is now marketing his own breakfast cereal, modestly named WBC (world's best cereal) and touted to help with digestion and promote healthy bowel movements. It's a type of muesli, but following the gluten-free trend, it doesn't contain wheat, oats or barley.
Instead, it has puffed buckwheat, puffed millet and puffed brown rice which, however good they may be for your bowels, taste and feel a little like cardboard.
Almonds and pumpkin and sunflower seeds give it a slight crunch and a few cranberries, apricots, dates and coconut add a hint of sweetness and flavour.
It's sold on online at $20 for 600g and may be available in some health food stores and supermarkets soon.
As with all muesli, it's very easy to make your own.
Puffed buckwheat, brown rice and millet are available in health food and organic shops and some supermarkets and you can vary the flavours with your favourite nuts and fruit.
