A pinch of nostalgia

Aunt Daisy
Aunt Daisy
Those who enjoy delving into old cookbooks will welcome a new edition of The Aunt Daisy Cookbook (Hodder Moa, pbk, $30).

The redoubtable radio personality dominated the airwaves for more than 25 years, is remembered for her unquenchable optimism, even during World War 2.

First published 1968, five years after her death, this book was edited by her daughter, Barbara Basham.

It's intriguing to find that old cookbooks often give several recipes for things, unlike modern ones that will choose just one: Aunt Daisy had six recipes for Christmas Cake - take your pick from one that keeps well, one made with ginger ale, a moist one, one that featured on radio, one from Mangatainoka, and one that won 100 prize! Good browsing, baking and cooking for those of a nostalgic turn of palate.
