3 nutrition tips for good health

ODT Online Advertorial

Here's 3 tips that will help you eat smarter and healthier to support your weight loss efforts.

Tip 1: Calories are not created equal

How many calories should you consume every day? If you're a woman then it's somewhere around 1,200 - 1,500 calories per day. This means that you eat foods that fall within this range and if you eat less than your daily caloric requirements you lose weight. Simple, right?
The problem with this model is that it assumes that all calories are created equal.

Is a calorie from a potato chip the same as a calorie from a piece of salmon?

A calorie from salmon has protein, good fats/oils and minerals that get used in various parts of your body like hormone production and brain function. This is what we call a nutritionally dense calorie, it's packed with amazing properties.

These kinds of calories actually support weight loss and give you overall health.

Don't get crazy on the amount of calories you consume if they come from great nutritionally dense sources but avoid calories that come from food that has been robbed of its nutritional value like potato chips, white bread, refined sugar etc.

Tip 2: Cleanse your liver

If you want to lose weight quickly then we have to get every part of your body working together.

Your liver has a huge part to play in weight-loss and if it's all blocked up and not working in good order your efforts can be wasted.

One of the best ways to do this is to introduce juicing into your daily routine. By using specific vegetables and fruits you can help your body heal itself faster. If you have a juicer, try this delicious liver cleanse cocktail:

  1. 5 Carrots
  2. 1 Small Lemon
  3. 2 Green Apples
  4. 1 Baby Beetroot

Chuck some ice in your juice and you've got yourself a potent liver cleanser!

Obviously you'll want to clean up your eating but doing this daily will work wonders on your liver.

Once your liver is fresh it will help you remove fat more efficiently.

Tip 3: Eat plants

Eating plants are fantastic for your body because they contain phytochemicals 'phyto' means plant in Greek. Phytochemicals are things like the orange colour of carrots or the smell of certain vegetables.

These 'plant chemicals' have been proven in studies to have a positive impact on serious illnesses like cancer and strokes.

Believe it or not a lot of health experts believe that vegetables are just water with no real value but this is an incredible oversight.

Vegetables do a great job of preventing illness and even reversing serious health conditions because they reduce inflammation in the body and inflammation is the pre-cursor to all disease.

Remove inflammation and you reduce the chances of disease.

Get into your plants and fruits and you'll help your body in amazing ways.
