Following her success in winning a silver medal, first-time Ellerslie International Flower Show exhibitor Sally Brown, of Blueskin Nurseries, Waitati, has added a second, more significant, award to her tally.
Ms Brown's garden took the Supreme Award for Horticulture, which is given by the judges to the exhibit they feel excels in the use of appropriate and unique horticultural material.
Her garden, named Passion, contained more than 3000 pink-flowered plants, all in full bloom. Even the balloons around the garden were pink.
Ms Brown was ''absolutely thrilled'', said her mother, Claire, who was at the show's opening day yesterday. ''And I don't think my feet have touched the ground, either.''
The success of newcomers such as Ms Brown and Emily McEwan, of East Taieri, in the exhibition's garden section was an incentive for others to enter, judge Karen Lowther, of Auckland, said.
