Saturday, September 13
The Annual Dead-headers' Picnic. Join the botanic garden staff in the lower garden camellia collection from 10.30am-noon to help with a little dead-heading (twisting off the old flowers from the camellias). This is followed by a BYO picnic and hot cup of tea (Camellia sinensis). Everyone welcome.

Sunday, September 14

Tuesday, September 16
Sawyers Bay Garden Club, Emmanuel Church hall, Station Rd, Sawyers Bay, 7.15pm. Spring flower arrangements: a posy, camellia, 3 stalks of parsley.

Friday-Saturday, September 19-20
Otago/Southland Branch of NZ Camellia Society hosts a garden exhibition at the Community Gallery, Princes St, Dunedin, 10am-4pm. Bonsai demonstration Friday, 1.30pm. Ikebana demonstration Saturday, 1.30pm. Camellia displays, teapot display, native plants and garden books.

Saturday, September 20
Sawyers Bay Garden Club will hold its spring flower show from 1pm-3.30pm at the Watersiders Hall, Port Chalmers (opposite the fire station). Cake and plant stalls, raffles, afternoon tea. Free. All welcome.

Glenavy Flower Show, Glenavy Hall, opens 2pm (entries to be staged by 10.30am). International dance, 2.45pm; and Victorian Wardrobe Modelling, 3pm. Afternoon tea available and sales table. Free. Inquiries, (03) 431-3859.

Dunedin Horticultural Society Grand Spring Show, Forbury Park Raceway. Saturday 2pm to 5pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm. Marianne Groothuis will speak both afternoons. Bring camellias to be named.

North Otago Orchid Show, Blind Foundation hall, Steward St, Oamaru. Open tomorrow, 11am-5pm, and Sunday, 10am-4pm. Orchids, orchid spikes, posy bowls and raffles. Inquiries, (03) 439-4604.
