What smell do you find irresistible?

Vanilla. In home baking of any sort.

What is your least favourite thing about humanity?

Selfishness. I'm appalled at the Me Generation. We're all here together, so we need to look after each other.

What is one strong childhood memory?

Walking through the Careys Bay railway tunnel with my father, Joe Potter. It was a shortcut to school. But I got the strap for taking the shortcut.

What is your message?

Look up to no-one. Look down on none. That was my father's saying.

If you were going to an island and could only take three things, what would they be and why?

My husband because he can fix things. My transistor radio, to listen to talkback radio. And some fresh library books.
