Many believe England was the major beneficiary of Ireland's upset of Australia last week. But while the English now appear set to avoid the southern hemisphere teams until a potential final, Foden denied it should be seen as a stroke of luck.
"It doesn't matter what side of the draw you are on. If you want to win a World Cup you have to go through those tough games.
"We want to continue winning games and make sure that when we get to the knockout games we have a winning mentality.
"We have a massive belief in the squad that we can go to a World Cup final and win it. We have five weeks of hard work to achieve something that I will remember for rest of my career.
"We are looking for things to gel and click and hopefully that will happen in the next couple of games."
England, despite winning its first two games at the World Cup, has been disappointed by its scrappy and ill-disciplined displays.
"That is why everyone was annoyed with the performances," Foden said. "It would be easy to pat ourselves on the back and say that we scored six tries against Georgia. If we perform like we did at the weekend that isn't going to cut it."
There is no complacency in the England camp.
"We know that if we want to progress in this competition we have to tidy up our game and cut the mistakes out.
"In the last two games we were trying to force things. When we made a half-break we were trying to offload to score tries. If we just had patience and held on to the ball we wouldn't have half-chances. We would have full holes to run through." Tomorrow, Foden is joined at the back by winger Mark Cueto, making his first tournament start.
Mike Tindall returns to the midfield, and Jonny Wilkinson usurps Toby Flood at first five. James Haskell remains at No 8 in the absence of Nick Easter, and Alex Corbisiero replaces Matt Stevens in the front row.
