Australian wife killer leaves jail after 25 years

Convicted wife murderer Andrew Kalajzich is a free man after serving more than 25 years in jail.

The one-time millionaire hotel entrepreneur walked out of Silverwater Correctional Complex in Sydney's west this morning.

There were no family members there to meet him although his now adult children Andrew and Michelle have remained close to their father during his time behind bars.

Kalajzich has maintained his innocence since his wife's death and is believed to have spent all of his fortune on attempting to clear his name.

He was wearing a dark blue suit and a light blue open-collared business shirt, and was driven off in a car surrounded by a massive media pack.

The NSW State Parole Authority granted him parole last month.

Kalajzich was jailed in 1988 after being convicted of hiring a hitman to shoot his wife twice in the head as she lay in bed in their northern beaches home on January 27, 1986.

He was found guilty of three charges including murder, conspiring to murder and attempting to discharge a loaded firearm with intent to murder.

Kalajzich will be closely supervised while on parole and monitored by Corrective Services NSW.
