A University of Otago residential college has shut down a makeshift ''nightclub'' started in one of its rooms.
The ''nightclub'' - dubbed ''Kingpone'' after student bar Capone - was started in a bedroom at Studholme College, on the corner of Clyde and Dundas Sts.
It came with its own Facebook page, which said: ''Located in the back-blocks of Studholme, Kingpone is Dunedin's latest nightclub facility.
''Fully furnished with a bed, balcony, beer pong table, fire extinguishers and can-bashing utensils, Kingpone has all the necessary items to [aid] a night of heavy drinking,'' it says on the page.
The page features images of students drinking on the balcony next to a makeshift Kingpone sign and people partying in a packed room complete with an improvised light show.
According to student magazine Critic, the ''nightclub'' was shut down after ''final warnings, broken bottles and substantial fines''.
The student who created the ''nightclub'' declined to be interviewed by the Otago Daily Times, but said in a message the Facebook page was started as a joke.
''[What] I will say, though, is we set up 'Kingpone' just as a few friends having a few quiet ones and we made a page as a joke and had no idea that it would take off this way,'' he said. A university spokeswoman said the activity was not condoned.
''The student faced disciplinary action and the location is back to normal,'' she said.
