The Dunedin Returned and Services' Association (RSA) is awash in poppies, after about 45,000 of the bright red paper flowers were delivered, ready for Poppy Day.

University of Otago Unicrew volunteers have pinned 90 boxes of poppies, each containing 500 flowers, and these will be sold through 35 stalls on Poppy Day, as well as through 250 local businesses, and 45 schools before Anzac Day (April 25).

Dunedin RSA and Welfare Trust administrator Sally Turner said Poppy Day was a giant volunteer effort, and that the organisation had received a lot of support so far.

"Local businesses have been great, such as NZ Couriers, who are helping out with delivering boxes of poppies to businesses and the ANZ bank, who are counting the money for us,'' Mrs Turner said.

Now, she is urgently seeking volunteers to help out with covering the Poppy Day stalls on April 12.

All funds raised will go to the Dunedin RSA Welfare Trust, to help meet the welfare needs of ex-service personnel and their families.
