The collective voice of the Cathedral Choir rang out around St Paul’s Cathedral in Dunedin as its new dean was installed yesterday.

The Very Rev Dr Tony Curtis, along with his children (from left) Gabriel and Ziva and wife Rachel Slade, was officially welcomed in a special service led by Bishop of Dunedin, the Rt Rev Steven Benford.

Dr Curtis took over the role from Dr Benford, who had been the cathedral’s acting dean since the retirement of former dean the Very Rev Dr Trevor James in 2018. He was previously Vicar of Shiremoor in Newcastle, England, and recently shifted to Dunedin with his family.

His children both gave readings during yesterday’s service.
