A Dunedin mother is expected to appear in the Dunedin District Court later this week after three young children were allegedly left home alone in Brockville at the weekend.
Senior Sergeant Craig Brown said police found three children, aged under 10, alone in a Brockville house, following a telephone call from a member of the public on Saturday night.
"We uplifted the children and placed them in CYFS [Child Youth and Family Services] care," he said.
A 29-year-old woman was facing three charges of leaving a child under 14 without reasonable supervision and was expected to appear in court later this week, Snr Sgt Brown said.
The children were all aged under 10, but Snr Sgt Brown declined to give their exact ages and could not say why they had been left alone.
The woman was arrested after arriving at the police station late yesterday morning, he said.
"She came here once she realised we had become involved," Snr Sgt Brown said.
The children remained in the care of CYFS staff, who would be "following their own procedures" in relation to the incident, he said.
No further information was available last night.
