A 22-year-old man has been charged with refusing to give a blood specimen after being found asleep in his car in the middle of the road.
Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said police were called to Coast Rd, near Karitane, about 5.50am on Saturday after a driver discovered the vehicle and was concerned about the dangers it posed.
‘‘Our informant tried to wake the male, but he didn’t get any response and there was concern that there was no-one else around.’’
Snr Sgt Bond said by the time officers arrived, the car had moved ‘‘some distance’’ down the road and the man was still sitting in it.
‘‘The 22-year-old male was under the influence of alcohol.’’
He went through the drink-driving procedure but refused to complete a breath or blood alcohol test.
‘‘So he was arrested and charged with refusing to give a blood specimen.’’
