A broken wire caused one of Dunedin's recently installed Barnes Dances to stop working yesterday.

Dunedin City Council transport engineering and road safety team leader Hjarne Poulsen said a broken wire in one of the traffic lights at the intersection of George St and Moray Pl caused the lights to malfunction.

Traffic was disrupted for a short time while the fault was located and repaired just before noon, Mr Poulsen said.

The fault was a one-off and not expected to be an issue for the other recently installed Barnes Dance lights, he said.

The intersection was the third of eight Barnes Dance expected to be installed by the DCC.
