Bigger, better mardi gras

Outram School will be transformed into a twilight wonderland on Friday with the return of the school's mardi gras.

Organising committee member Su Miller said the carnival was the school's annual fundraising event, and was shaping up to be bigger and better than ever.

As well as the usual candy apples, candy floss, lollies, ice creams and sausage sizzles, the Outram mardi gras would live up to its reputation for the range and quality of less traditional fair food on offer, she said.

There would be a ''tantalising'' variety of curries, delicious baked potatoes with stunning toppings, gourmet burgers, gourmet ploughman's platters and decadent desserts.

''These can be enjoyed while listening to a fantastic line-up of live music, including the very talented Melissa Partridge,'' Ms Miller said.

Another feature of the event is Retro Alley with its assortment of second-hand goods.

''There is a real chance of getting a bargain here.''

Entry to the mardi gras is by gold coin donation and the gates open at 4.30pm.
