Burglars busy in Dunedin

Burglars have been active in the Dunedin area this week.

Six burglaries had been reported in the past few days, Senior Sergeant Liz Waru, of Dunedin, said.

Building tools were taken from a partially secured house in South Rd, Caversham, on Tuesday night and a television and laptop were stolen from a property in Stirling Cres, Mosgiel.

A large amount of clothing was stolen from a washing line at a property in Craig Hendry St, Concord, also on Tuesday night, while a Belleknowes property was broken into and ''ransacked'' after a window was broken and internal door forced open some time in the last week.

It was unclear what had been taken.

Cars had also been targeted, Snr Sgt Waru said.

Two vehicles parked at a Mulford St, Concord, property were broken into on Tuesday night and a wallet and electronic accessories taken.

Petrol was siphoned from a car in Tanner Rd, Glenleith, after a hole was drilled in the vehicle's tank.

The owner noticed the hole when he filled up with petrol and it spilled out, Snr Sgt Waru said.

Police are reminding people to be vigilant and secure their belongings.
