Otago got another taste of summer yesterday, with temperatures soaring into the high 20s.

Meteorologist Claire Flynn said official MetService temperatures reached 27.5degC at Dunedin Airport, 27.5degC in Alexandra, 25.3degC in Oamaru, 23.2degC in Queenstown and 23.7degC in Wanaka.

Private weather stations on the MetService website showed temperatures reached 33degC in Mosgiel, 32degC in parts of Dunedin City, 30degC in Milton and 29degC in much of Central Otago.

Ms Flynn said the high temperatures were brought in by strong northwesterlies over the South Island.

She said the temperatures were well above average for this time of year.

The average high for November was 17degC in Dunedin, 21degC in Alexandra, 16degC in Oamaru, 19degC in Wanaka and 18degC in Queenstown, she said.

The warm weather was expected to continue this morning, but Otago residents have been warned to make the most of it.

MetService has forecast a southerly change this afternoon and cooler, wetter weather is expected for the rest of the week.
