Painting a picture of the past

University of Otago science communication student Paulina Barry (below) came close to finishing her mural on the side of the Zoology Building on Albany St yesterday.

Ms Barry started working on the mural earlier this month and said she was set to complete the mural some time this week.

The project was a creative component of Ms Barry’s master’s thesis and was supported by the zoology department.

The 15m-tall and 12.5m-wide mural depicts a large moa alongside other extinct native birds.

She hoped the mural would encourage members of the public to learn more about extinct birdlife and the importance of conservation.
