Tick for polytechnic

The Otago Polytechnic has received a Rainbow Tick accreditation to acknowledge its commitment to valuing diversity of sexual and gender identities.

Rainbow Tick is an organisation that supports rainbow communities and evaluates an employer’s inclusiveness of diverse sexual and gender identities.

A tick means an organisation has shown it is a diverse and inclusive employer.

To qualify, the employer must have policies and strategies that specifically mention inclusion at all levels, including governance.

Education on diversity must also be offered to staff, while feedback from staff on this matter is received through focus groups.

"The Otago Polytechnic welcomes and includes everyone, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, or religious or ethical beliefs," a polytechnic spokesman said.

The polytechnic has received a tick every year since 2016.

The rainbow is a symbol of people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, transgender, takatapui and intersex asexual.
