Car struck loose spare tyre before crash - witness

No-one was injured after a car rolled on the Dunedin Southern Motorway this morning.

A police spokeswoman said they were called to the scene about 7.45am after the crash in the northbound lane near Saddle Hill Rd.

Traffic was beginning to build up behind the crash and was being diverted through Fairfield, she said.

Three Mile Hill Rd is currently closed due to road works so could not be used.

A photographer at the scene said the vehicle came to rest on its roof and the female driver was out of the vehicle.

"She appeared shaken but unhurt".

A witness posted to social media saying the crash was caused after the woman's car struck a spare tyre which came off the vehicle in front of her.
