Cases relate to PBRF issues

Workload and performance issues relating to Performance-Based Research Fund (PBRF) outcomes are the cause of many personal employment cases at tertiary institutions, the Tertiary Education Union (TEU) says.

TEU national industrial officer Irena Brorens said TEU dealt with more than 150 personal cases at 28 institutions during March and April this year.

Of those cases many related to research or PBRF outcomes, Ms Brorens told the TEU's weekly newsletter.

There was also a trend of cases arising from excessive workloads, changes in duties or cuts in hours, she said.

In the period from March and April there were 65 reviews which had affected 300 TEU members and led to 22 redundancies.

TEU's University of Otago organiser declined to comment.
