University Book Shop manager Phillippa Duffy said the business sold children's books in two shops in Dunedin - in the main Great King St shop and the Children's Room and Book Shop in George St, which opened on Thursday.
The new ''pop up'' shop, formerly the Toi Toi Design Store, would be open until Christmas.
However, if the response from customers was positive, the lease period could be extended, she said.
The sales in the first week had been better than expected, Ms Duffy said.
''It has been fantastic.''
