City concert back on NZSO schedule

The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra has reinstated one of its Dunedin concerts following the Dunedin City Council's decision to delay the Dunedin Centre redevelopment at the town hall.

The orchestra's planned concert at the Dunedin Town Hall on September 15 this year, with internationally acclaimed percussionist Colin Currie, was cancelled last year when the city council unveiled plans to redevelop the Dunedin Centre this year.

The redevelopment effectively meant the town hall was unable to be used while the work was being carried out.

However, the council's decision to delay the redevelopment meant the concert could be reinstated on the orchestra's concert schedule, NZSO chief executive Peter Walls said.

"We are thrilled that we can continue our 2010 season in Dunedin as planned and bring the NZSO back to our loyal Dunedin audiences.

"We are grateful to Dunedin Mayor Peter Chin for assisting us in reinstating this concert," he said.

Mr Chin was delighted the orchestra was coming back to Dunedin in September.

"The orchestra's contribution to the cultural life of our city is invaluable," he said.
