Seven "adaptation futures" are to be presented by the South Dunedin Future programme team to the Dunedin City Council and Otago Regional Council for their consideration this month.
A report about the city council’s allocation of Three Waters Better Off funding from the government referred to some money directed to South Dunedin Future.
Better Off funding represented about 40% of total South Dunedin Future funding of about $3.5 million over the three-year period from the 2023-24 financial year until 2025-26, the city council said.
Such funding contributed to technical work to finalise a South Dunedin risk assessment and "develop seven potential adaptation futures for South Dunedin that will be presented to councils in March 2025".
The technical work was primarily undertaken by a consultancy consortium for the city council made up of WSP, Beca and Tonkin + Taylor.
This included engineering, land use planning, hazard assessment, risk assessment, community engagement and technical peer review, the council said.
Overall, as of the end of last year, the council has spent about $6m of its $11.54m Better Off funding allocation.
Funding has been allocated to a variety of work, such as preparing to inspect water pipes and scoping of repair work for damage to dams.
