The public will have their say on a shake-up of speed limits on some Dunedin streets after city councillors endorsed the move yesterday.
Councillors at yesterday's planning and regulatory committee meeting voted to consult the public on two initiatives that could see speed limits lowered temporarily around some schools, and permanently in other parts of the city.
New 40kmh variable speed zones would see the lower limit enforced during set hours outside Carisbrook School, King's and Queen's high schools, Kaikorai Valley College and Wakari School.
And the speed limits on 12 other city streets could also drop, by up to 30kmh, as part of the proposed review of the city's speed limit bylaw.
Both changes were endorsed for public consultation yesterday, meaning the window for public submissions would run from July 1 to August 1.
Public hearings would follow, if needed, before final reports were presented to a full council meeting on November 16.
Changes, if confirmed, would be in place from February 1 next year.
