Police have swarmed into the Dunedin suburb of Pine Hill tonight, after an alleged attempted robbery this evening.

At about 7pm the Pine Hill Dairy was the latest targeted in a string of Dunedin dairy robberies, prompting a swift response by police.

The Otago Daily Times saw three police cars in the area, while officers spoke to an occupant inside the dairy and examined the scene.

A friend of the store's occupant, arriving at the shop, was told by police he could not come in.

"The store's just been robbed," an officer told him.

A police spokeswoman said a man had entered the shop on Pinehill Rd and demanded money, but left empty-handed.

There were no reports of injuries but police remained in the area, conducting enquires, she said.
