Assault-alleged in custody after search of city streets

A man allegedly involved in a serious assault is in custody after a manhunt in a Dunedin suburb this afternoon.

Police cordons were put up at several streets in the Kaikorai area as they searched for the man after "a serious assault", which was being viewed as a family harm incident, a police spokeswoman said.

The incident, at a property in Falcon St, was reported to police at 3.10pm today, and the cordons were still in place just before 5pm.

Shortly after 5pm it was confirmed a man had been taken into custody.

Although the matter was viewed as a serious assault, the victim had not been seriously injured and had not required medical treatment, the spokeswoman said.

Cordons were up in several places, including Kenmure Rd, Carnarvon St and Bellevue St.
