A man has been arrested in relation to a stabbing at a boarding house in central Dunedin.

A police spokeswoman confirmed today that a 39-year-old man was arrested for wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and was to appear in the Dunedin District Court tomorrow.

Police armed with rifles descended on the boarding house in Graham St yesterday afternoon after reports of a stabbing.

Several police cars were parked outside the boarding house at the end of the central Dunedin street, which runs off High St.

St John spokesman Gerard Campbell said a 30-year-old man has been transported to Dunedin Hospital with serious injuries.

Police confirmed the man had been stabbed.
